a year and a day

I don’t think I will ever get enough.

One week after I made the clip that begins this video, I ran in the Prospect Park Track Club’s Turkey Trot, my first race in more than three years. State Senator Zellnor Myrie spoke before the race, giving his thanks that, after all that we in New York had been through, we were now alive to see the day, crisp and sunny and still vibrant with the colors of late fall. I remember the buoyancy of that day with wistfulness now—one day before I ever heard of the thing called Nu, now known as Omicron.

I have so much to write and share, and I will, but right now I am living life somewhat as I ran my most recent race, a half-marathon of laps around Prospect Park. I know the course well, so I was able to maintain a pace of 2 minutes 15 seconds per quarter mile and finish in under two hours. The whole time I never thought much beyond the quarter mile I was running at the moment. If I can maintain a similar steadiness through the end of this term, perhaps I will actually finish my capstone project. We shall see.

Meanwhile, I can live as I run in other ways, too—with my eyes open. I don’t think I will ever get enough of seeing how the light shines on this world.
